Overview
A focused three-day expedition to the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes for a permitted, ranger-escorted hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere from one to six hours depending on the family's movements, traversing bamboo forest and steep, often muddy terrain. Porters are provided. Bookended by a cultural village visit and a relaxed return to Kigali.
Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Kigali → Volcanoes National Park
Pick-up in Kigali, scenic 2.5-hour drive north past terraced hills and tea plantations. Lunch at your lodge, afternoon Iby'Iwacu community village visit, briefing dinner.

Day 2: Gorilla trek day
Pre-dawn breakfast and transfer to park HQ for the 7am briefing. Family allocation, trek into the forest, one magical hour with the gorillas, and return to the lodge for a celebratory lunch. Afternoon at leisure (spa / pool / golden monkey add-on).

Day 3: Return to Kigali
Late breakfast, optional Dian Fossey tomb hike or Genocide Memorial visit en route back to Kigali for departure.
